Alberta, known as Bertha, was born in 1861 in Wainfleet, Lincolnshire, England.1  Bertha's father was Rev John Maw JOLL and her mother was Mary Jane RICHARDSON.  Her paternal grandparents were Digory JOLL and Martha MAW; her maternal grandparents were George RICHARDSON and Mary WILSON. She had two brothers and five sisters, named George, Alfred, Lucy, Martha, Mary, Elizabeth and Annie.  She was the youngest of the eight children. She had four half-brothers named John, Samuel, Watson and William.  She died at the age of 87 in 1948 in Sowerby, Thirsk, Yorkshire, England.2
