George was born in 1850 in Barton-on-Humber, Lincolnshire, England and his baptism took place there on August 13th, 1850.1  George's father was Rev John Maw JOLL and his mother was Mary Jane RICHARDSON.  His paternal grandparents were Digory JOLL and Martha MAW; his maternal grandparents were George RICHARDSON and Mary WILSON. He had a brother and six sisters, named Alfred, Lucy, Martha, Mary, Elizabeth, Annie and Bertha.  He was the third oldest of the eight children. He had four half-brothers named John, Samuel, Watson and William.  He died in an accident or as a result of an injury, Horse, at the age of 43 on November 30th, 1893 in Oamaru, Otago, New Zealand.  He was buried on December 2nd, 1893 at the Oamaru Old Cemetery, Oamaru, Otago, New Zealand.2 3

‌George and Frances were married in a religious ceremony on July 2nd, 1878 at Wesleyan Chapel (Mildmay Park), Islington, Greater London, England by Reverend J Hutcheon MA and witnessed by Alfred & Bertha Joll.5  They had seven sons and a daughter, named George, Reginald, Frank, Len, Horace, Ernest, Cyril and Olive.
