New Zealand Generic SeriesThis series features general views of both the North and South Islands. For booklets containing stamps showing views of a single island, see NGE for the North Island generic series, and SGE for the South Island generic series 45c stamps with "New Zealand Mail" logo, small size, Australian printingsThese stamps appear to have been issued in rolls and without serial numbers. This first issue is produced in a style normally seen in self-adhesive roll stamps printed in Australia: the corners are blunt; and the lettering is solid white (or black) without a frame line. These stamps do not show an imprint date, but the earliest postmark date reported to me on this issue is 14th February, 2006.
I have seen slight variations in the size of the glossy layer overprinted on these stamps. Neither of these varieties is uncommon, and I have also seen some stamps apparently with intermediate variations. 45c stamps with "New Zealand Mail" logo, small size, Dunedin printingsThese stamps, as with the previous issue, appear to have been issued in rolls and without serial numbers. This second issue is produced in a style normally seen in self-adhesive roll stamps printed by Southern Colour Print, Dunedin: the corners are sharp; and the lettering also differs from the previous issue in that it is in white lettering with a black frame. Some designs have been redrawn, and one (Mount Maunganui), completely replaced (by Cathedral Cove). These stamps do not show an imprint date, but the earliest postmark date reported to me on this issue is 26th October, 2006.
$2 stamps, large sizeI have been able to find very little information about this series. These stamps appear to have been printed on cards, not booklets, and may show additional minor varieties similar to those seen on other stamps printed on cards. Previously separate issues for the North and South Islands had been listed, but now it seems that series for both islands were issued in tandem; and some designs have not been seen even in any advertising. This listing is temporary, and is based on the original North Island listing. However, advertising I have seen shows both the Cathedral Cove stamp and the Mount Maunganui stamp, but am unable to give details of when the design was replaced. Any additional information which could improve this listing is welcomed.
This is another temporary listing, based on the original South Island listing. Any additional information which could improve this listing is welcomed.
$2 stamps, normal sizeI have only seen this series issued as a booklet showing scenes of both the North and the South Islands. The design numbers are out of order so that they match other series of similar design.
50c stamps, small sizeThese stamps appear to have been issued in rolls and without serial numbers. This issue is produced in a style normally seen in self-adhesive roll stamps printed by Southern Colour Print, Dunedin. In the original issue, the corners are sharp and the die-cuts deep; but in issues from late 2008 onwards the corners were blunter and the die-cuts shallower. These stamps do not show an imprint date, but the earliest postmark date reported to me on this issue is 15th June, 2007. I first saw a stamp with shallower die-cuts in September, 2008, but the earliest postmark I have seen on such a stamp was 19 October, 2008
Appendix 1During 2008, the die-cut pattern was changed so that the corners were blunter and the die-cuts shallower. These enlargements show the difference between types.
