George was born on November 30th, 1858 in South Reston, Lincolnshire, England.¹ George's father was William HAY and his mother was Elizabeth DAWSON. His maternal grandparents were George DAWSON and Elizabeth JOLL. He had six brothers and four sisters, named William, Herbert, Frederick, Alfred, Walter, Septimus, Alice, Lizzie, Matilda and Mary. He was the third oldest of the eleven children. He died at the age of 31 on August 4th, 1890 in Broadmoor, Crowthorne, Berkshire, England. He was buried on August 13th, 1890 at the South Reston Churchyard, South Reston, Lincolnshire, England.¹¹
