Watson was born in 1839 in St Ives, Cambridgeshire, England and his baptism took place on May 3rd, 1840 in Diss, Norfolk, England conducted by Reverend John Reynolds.1 2  Watson's father was Rev John Maw JOLL and his mother was Catherine Louisa CLIFFE.  His paternal grandparents were Digory JOLL and Martha MAW; his maternal grandparents were John CLIFFE and Elizabeth. He had three brothers named John, Samuel and William.  He was the second youngest of the four sons. He had two half-brothers and six half-sisters, named George, Alfred, Lucy, Martha, Mary, Elizabeth, Annie and Bertha.  He died at the age of 79 on October 30th, 1918 in Manchester, Lancashire, England.  He was buried on November 1st, 1918 at the Southern Cemetery, Manchester, Lancashire, England.3 4
