Harry was born in 1862 in Childrey, Wantage, Oxfordshire, England.1 Harry's father was Samuel James JOLL and his mother was Sarah HAY. His paternal grandparents were Rev Samuel JOLL and Mary POYNTON. He had a brother and six sisters, named Samuel, Annie, Sarah, Mary, Henrietta, Alice and Clara. He was the second youngest of the eight children.
