There was a large attendance at Wesley Church this afternoon, on the occasion of the marriage, of Mr Frank Joll (of the staff of the National Mortgage and Agency Company) with Miss Grace Thorpe (eldest daughter of Mr John Thorpe, manager of Meek's Mill). The. ceremony was performed by the Rev. Mr Hudson. assisted by the Rev. Mr- Griffin, and the church had. been prettily decorated for the function. The principal bridesmaid was Miss Amy Thorpe, sister of the bride, and Mr S. Powell acted as groomsman. There was a fill master of the church choir, choir and at the conclusion of the ceremony the Wedding March was played by the organist (Miss Crawshaw). The bride and bridegroom were the recipients of a very large number of wedding presents, included in which were a. useful travelling rug (the gift of the staff of the National Mortgage and Agency Company) and a handsome silver cake dish (presented by the teachers of Wesley Sunday, Mr Joll having been secretary and Miss Thorpe a teacher of that institution). Mr and Mrs Joll left by the north express, and intend taking a trip to the Old Country, visiting the Continent on return journey.

OBITUARY
MR JOHN FRANCIS JOLL.
There passed away at his residence in Arun street this morning Mr John Francis Joll, aged 54 years, after a protracted but patiently borne illness. Mr Joll was born in Dunedin, a son of the late Mr and Mrs George Joll, and as a boy came to Oamaru, where he has resided practically all his life, with the exception of two periods during which he made trips to the Homeland. His early education was received at the Oamaru North and Ngapara School. On leaving school Mr Joll took up clerical work. He was for six years a clerk in Messrs Craig and Co. and also for a period the local branch of the National Mortgage and Agency Co. After being a piano salesman for a time, Mr Joll took up sharebroking, which business he followed for the last ten years of his life. Before taking up business on his own account Mr Joll was a partner of Mr Mackissack and later of Mr D.V.G. Smith. Some years ago he was appointed a country member of the Dunedin Stock Exchange. In all his business, dealings he established a reputation for probity and integrity, and, consequently he made a host of friends by whom he will be greatly missed. Mr Joll was a member of the Loyal Alfred Lodge I.O.O.F. for from 18 to 20 years, and in his younger days he took a keen interest in lodge affairs. He was also a member of Wesley Church and, while he was able, took a keen interest in all matters pertaining to the welfare of the church. He was a trustee of the church up to the time of his death. Mr Joll's chief interests were as already mentioned, his health since the year of his majority precluding his taking any active part or interest in sport, but despite the handicap of ill-health he always showed a cheerful demeanour and an optimistic spirit, and at no time in his life were these admirable characteristics more evident than in his last long illness, which he bore with great fortitude. The Funeral will leave her parents' residence for the Oamaru Cemetery, 29th inst. Friends are invited to kindley attend.

John, known as Frank, was born on August 10th, 1881 at Residence (King Street) - George Joll, Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand and his baptism took place on October 6th, 1881 at Trinity Weslyan (Dunedin), Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand conducted by Reverend J Crump of Oamaru.1 2 He died at the age of 54 on January 3rd, 1936 at Oamaru Residence (Arun Street), Oamaru, Otago, New Zealand. He was buried on January 4th, 1936 at the Oamaru Old Cemetery, Oamaru, Otago, New Zealand.3 4
Grace THORPE
Grace was born on March 20th, 1883.5 She died at the age of 30 on October 27th, 1913 in Oamaru, Otago, New Zealand. The funeral took place on October 29th, 1913 and was arranged by Grenfell. She was buried on October 29th, 1913 at the Oamaru Old Cemetery, Oamaru, Otago, New Zealand.6 3 7

G.R. Joll Retires
The recent resignation of Mr G. R. Joll from the staff of the Waitaki County Council marks the end of the career of a man who was noted not only for his efficiency but also for the wide grasp of his position.
Mr Joll's work on the background of the rural water schemes, although time consuming, was extremely valuable and along the same lines, his efforts over a long period of time involving the Otematata village take-over were also worthwhile.
Mr Joll's greatest attribute however, was probably his clear and incisive mind and his grasp of the various statutes affecting the county.
In private life, Mr Joll was for many years the treasurer of the Returned Servicemen's Association, he was the county Patriotic Society representative, and one of his great preoccupations was the planting of trees.
Mr Joll first was appointed to the position of Assistant County Clerk in 1931, and then later became the Chief Executive Officer while still on active service in Italy.
A short time ago after a period of ill health, Mr Joll retired from the position of county clerk and took over the office of assistant clerk again, handing over his former office to Mr A. Budd. However, ill health forced him into complete retirement and his, resignation was accepted with regret at the last meeting of the county council on Friday.

On August 11, 1974, at Oamaru, dearly loved hus¬band of Gladys Joll, dearly loved father of Ian (Invercargill) and Elizabeth (Mrs M. J. G. Davis, Tarras), aged 64 years.
The Funeral will leave St Paul's Presbyterian Church, Oamaru, Tomorrow (Tuesday), August 13, after a service commencing at 1 p.m., for the Salisbury Crematorium Timaru. In lieu of flowers, arrangements for donations to the Cancer Research Fund will be made at the church.

Gilbert was born on June 15th, 1910 in Oamaru, Otago, New Zealand and his baptism took place on February 24th, 1911 at Wesleyan Church (Oamaru), Oamaru, Otago, New Zealand.4 He died from cancer, Lung, at the age of 64 on August 11th, 1974 in Oamaru, Otago, New Zealand. The funeral took place on August 13th, 1974 at St Paul's (Oamaru), Oamaru, Otago, New Zealand and was arranged by Strimger, Wilson and Perkins. He was cremated on August 13th, 1974 at the Salisbury Park, Timaru, Canterbury, New Zealand.8 4 4
