Wesleyan Methodist Magazine 1850:-
Feb 5th. – At Waddington Grange, near Lincoln, Mr. Digory Joll, in the eightieth year of his age. He had been a member of the Wesleyan Society sixty-three years, and for more than half a century a Preacher. Some of his earlier years were spent in our ministry; and, on retiring he became a Local Preacher, and so continued to the end of life. He was, throughout, a man of great Christian simplicity, of unblemished reputation, unbending Integrity, and unvarying attachment to Connexional principles. For some months past his long-cherished spirituality of mind had visibly increased: and his family saw the man of God ripening for the heavenly rest. Though he resided at some distance from the chapel, the feebleness of age was not suffered to detain him from his wonted place there. On the Sabbath preceding his death he went, as usual, to listen to the preached word ; and remained after the general, taking active part in the prayer-meeting which followed. The next evening (Monday) found him again in his accustomed place. This was the last season of public devotion. The following morning he arose, apparently in as good health as he had known for some years. The morning-meal had ended, and the duties of family devotion were commenced. He sat listening, with deep interest, while a member of this family read the word of God; and in an instant was seized, and ceased to breathe. He " walked with God; and he was not, for God took him."
