Descendants of Digory Joll

<body> <p id="noframes"> This <b>genealogy report</b> is about <i>Descendants of Digory Joll</i>.It contains 407 individuals and 121 families, and also 179 Pictures from the family tree. Digory Joll was a Wesleyan Methodist minister stationed mainly in Lincolnshire in the early part of the 19th century. At present little is known of his life. He married Martha Maw from Epworth and was stationed at Raithby 1803, Thetford 1806 and Lusby from 1808 until he died on 9th February 1850 aged 79. His twin sons John Maw Joll and Samuel Joll both continued as Methodist Ministers, with Samuel living in North America for a period, but returning to Lincolnshire with his young family. George Richardson Joll, the fifth son of John, emigrated to New Zealand on the ship Calypso sailing from London on 22nd July 1879  arriving at Dunedin on the 14th October. The family settled in Oamaru where they started a grocery business. The sons of George moved throughout New Zealand in the early 1900s and their descendants now extend from Auckland to Invercargill. At the time George left England, his sister Alberta drew a family tree dated 1878 and this has been the basis of this research. A manuscript copy of "Sketch of the Character and Ministry of the late Rev. John Maw Joll 1806 - 1866" has been transcribed and supplies additional details.  Little attempt has been made to trace the female descendants, but in the future further research will be undertaken.<br /><br />In 1842 a family of Jolls arrived in Taranaki from Cornwall and are now well established throughout New Zealand.
